Undeniably pleasant, but unquestionably pretty slight
Before starting the review, I want to be sure to establish my dino bona fides. Aside from having loads of little plastic figures and books concerning them when I was a kid, probably more than half of the pictures I’m in from ages 5 to 7 have me wearing the same dinosaur shirt I practically lived in for a few years… so the love is real. Recalling my much earlier years, I also remember loving the hidden object page in every issue of Highlights magazine, so in theory this game is something I can get down with. Yes, but only to a degree. Most likely geared primarily for younger, or at least much more casual, gamers, this is a hidden titles game where your focus is finding a pretty wide variety of cute little dinos. You’ll be looking for them in one of 9 different hand-drawn scenes, and it can be tricky since it will typically only be their head or some other small portion of them peeking out. To the developer’s credit, there’s at least a little more replayability than you may expect, as it appears dinos are placed each time you tackle the puzzle, though how fresh that would remain to feel over time would remain to be seen.In terms of where it fits in with its competition, though granted there isn’t all that much out there, I’d say it lands somewhere in the middle overall. It is obviously pretty straight-forward and doesn’t have some of the other mechanics or elements others have implemented to try to elevate the experience a bit more. I do appreciate the attempt to improve replayability with multiple skill levels and more randomized placements though, and in that regard it at least shows more effort than some of its simpler brethren. If you’re looking for something to relax a bit with, or dinosaurs simply have a special place in your heart, it may be worth a look.
