Let’s face it, in this generation the Switch has become home to quite a large number of local multiplayer titles, some of which have been incredible while the others have ranged from poor to outright awful. Entering the fray very late in the game we now have TactiCats, which sadly fails to fully demonstrate its furry fury.

In general, there’s actually not all that much to know. You’ll choose your frisky feline and then face off against your friends or bots, trying to pounce on one another to be the last cat standing. While there aren’t all that many stages, they at least vary a bit in their design and elements that make them distinct. Some will have distractions running about that can really screw you up, while others simply offer more cover, and finally some feature a dangerous choke point or two. A small number of power-ups will also periodically appear, and they’re generally balanced nicely, affording some potential advantage, but never on their own doing enough to fully turn the tides of battle.

The thing is, if you and your friends are cat fanciers, there may be some fun mileage to be had here. Just because the play is pretty basic, doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. The problem really isn’t quality so much as the fact that you’ll likely burn through your fascination with it in a few hours, aside from having something to just break out and enjoy again on a periodic basis. If you keep your expectations in check it could be fine, just don’t expect much depth or you’ll be disappointed.
