Um… a full console release with on-screen controls only? FAIL!
OK, so I’ve gotten used to loading up games and not having my Pro Controller work for them. No problem, while I’m not as fond of playing with the JoyCon controllers, it is manageable. When those don’t work it becomes clear that the game requires touchscreen controls… but in the case of a sports game that’s built around action? That was quite a bit more baffling. The thing is, I never would have assumed what I saw next, and that was this game using an on-screen joystick and buttons like you’d have on a mobile phone.I’m sorry, but at that point any enthusiasm I had for the game immediately went out the window. Being honest, the general flow of play itself is also limited and a bit odd, so I would doubt using a proper controller would help things out very much. It truly feels like a middling-at-best mobile game ported over to a dedicated gaming system that has plenty of options to support proper play, but were then ignored. There’s simply no reason to accept this sort of lazy conversion, and that makes it disqualifying for any real discussion when it comes to titles worth anyone’s time on the system.
