AKA: Tedious Inventory Management - The Game

When contemplating great franchises over the years that have grabbed the industry zeitgeist, the Resident Evil series would certainly come to mind. Even with the control issues and some awkwardness of the earlier titles, the cool lore, specific moments that have continued to haunt people, and the general fun of taking on zombies have endured. But that’s leaving out one aspect of the earlier titles in particular that most people remember, though perhaps not so fondly, and that’s the meticulous management of your inventory. If you happen to find yourself pining for a title that would encapsulate that experience into an entire game, you’ll be happy to know that Save Room - The Merchant has you covered.

Depending on your perspective this could be a matter of turning lemons into lemonade, or perhaps into a torturous concoction that transports you to one of the corners of hell that gaming tries very hard to forget. You have a very limited grid-based inventory space to work with, and you’ll need to Tetris each of your vital supplies into place, rotating and rearranging them until you’ve got everything you wanted covered. Whether it’s some guns, supplies for healing, or whatever else you may need, you’ll need to be sure you’ve got everything before you’ll be able to move onto the next level.

Where this gets pretty tedious is that you’ll also need to perform repetitive simple tasks like loading each gun with the proper ammo, and sell off items you don’t need for cash that will let you purchase what you need. This problem is exacerbated by the pretty slow pace of simply moving each item into place, swapping between the area representing the store or what’s available, and moving everything block by block to the proper spot. If the sounds of all of this excites you, I have great news, but if you were hoping for something more interesting, this will quickly cripple your soul.
