If you enjoyed the core game, this seasonal DLC should still have appeal, but beware that some audio glitches in particular are a bummer

Reviewing DLC can always be a bit of a challenge since to some degree, it’s obvious that whatever the strengths and weaknesses of the core game are, the new offering will likely share them. That can especially be a shame when the original game has some clear issues, and the DLC is unable to really address them, simply adding more content with the same problems. Lake, despite having a somewhat appealingly cozy vibe and chill gameplay to offer, absolutely had some technical shortcomings where its graphics were concerned, and with it being a laid back experience lacking in clear technical demands that pointed to a bad port to the system. Unfortunately, the Season’s Greetings DLC has only managed to add to those issues, throwing on some spotty audio issues to boot.

This time around you’ll be playing as Meredith’s father, the mail carrier who she was filling in for in the original game. Moving the experience into a more seasonal direction, you’ll be driving to deliver letters and packages in a snow-covered setting, taking in the more generally festive scenery and chatting up with the people around town while on your route. Without there being a drive to make a decision on going back to the stresses of the big city, or some potential romantic prospects, this DLC leans heavily on the feel-good nature of the season and spending more time talking to people about their everyday lives. Of course that’s all while driving around in the pretty weakly-implemented mail truck driving sim portions as you get around town.

Now, since you wouldn’t be looking into this DLC if you didn’t already have the original game, and I’d assume you enjoyed it, the good news is that for the most part it works along the same lines and has plenty of good feels for you to bathe in. The moderately-good news is that in some ways the graphical issues the original had are more minimized since you’ll be driving through more snow-covered areas which seem to have helped a little with the lackluster visuals the Switch port had. The bad news is that while it only happened periodically I had issues with the sound dropping out for some of the dialogue. Once again, this establishes that whoever handled the Switch port really managed to make a mess of things, so once again I’m left encouraging people who think this sounds like it could be a pleasant way to spend some time, to consider getting it on another platform.
