Who knew that bringing the telenovela format to a digital narrative could work out to be pretty entertaining?

As anyone who knows my channel should already be well aware, I don’t tend to be a fan of visual novels. It isn’t that I haven’t seen ones that work reasonably well, it’s just that more often than not I fail to see the real benefit of them being on a gaming platform, since they don’t typically leave you feeling like you have much control over their stories. That said, when the base story is interesting or unique enough, and it feels like the choices you make at least have some impact on what happens, they can then be quite a lot of fun.

Given the fact that Destino Indomable has chosen the telenovella as the flavor of choice to guide the experience, I’d say that almost immediately you could feel the difference. Once you’ve chosen the look of your young actress, you’ll be joining the program and diving right into the thick of things. Very quickly you’ll be introduced to the primary players on the show, ranging from a handsome horseman to a suspicious wife to the iron-fisted matriarch of the most powerful family in town. In general how you proceed will be up to you, but the best news of all is that in many cases a hearty slap is an option… and it can often give you unpredictable results.

With multiple possible endings, a handful of characters you’ll have the option of wooing, and the fact that the audience’s response to your character has a part of play in things, there’s plenty of trouble to get into and it’s appropriately dramatic (and pretty fun) most of the time because of that. There isn’t necessarily a strictly proper path to follow, in all honesty it’s much more fun just to follow your whims and see where it can lead you, since obviously high drama can sometimes be your best option. While if you’re obviously unfamiliar with Latin soap operas in any way, not even having seen them parodied or imitated, this may fall completely flat, it’s probably the most fun I’ve had with a game of this kind overall by just being so weird and yet authentic to a degree.
