Reviews:
  • Unsurprisingly, the combination of Dead Cells and Castlevania proves to be nostalgic and truly fantastic in this paid DLC Package

I normally don’t do a full-fledged review for DLC, but in this case it was too fantastic to neglect. In one of the truly peanut-butter-meets-chocolate moments in gaming, the revered classic Castlevania series has been married with the intense roguelike action of Dead Cells, and they are absolutely delicious together. The initial Castlevania stage outside the castle walls is actually very easy to find and get sucked into, thankfully a change from some of its other DLC where you had to be ready to dig pretty deep to fully appreciate what was added. Once you’re in that space you’ll be pretty well immediately impressed with numerous classic cuts from the series as well as some terrific remixes that are a treat in themselves. While the focus of your quest will ultimately be to take on Dracula, be warned that getting to him can be a bit of a challenge, let alone surviving his aggressive and powerful attacks. Throw in cameos from key series characters, classic enemies, and a fine array of classic weapons that generally integrate into play so smoothly and wonderfully and it’s really hard to find a single flaw in this terrific excuse to return to this top-shelf title in the Switch library, whether fueled by nostalgia or just looking to yet again extend the fun with a game that seems to never stop adding content and getting better.
