A budget puzzler or not, there’s simply nothing of note to enjoy here
There’s something to be said for simplicity in games sometimes, but only when smart design or a truly novel concept manages to do something surprising with limited elements. The rest of the time, unfortunately, it just ends up making for dull, listless, and utterly forgettable gameplay. I’ll give you one guess which one Bomb Kitten happens to be.So the elevator pitch here, I guess, would be a puzzle game modeled roughly after Bomberman, except rolling with the most uninteresting implementation you possibly could put together with those elements. You’re essentially taking a series based around frantic action, trying to be careful to place your multiple bombs strategically and hoping not to blow yourself up, and replacing it with a game where you’ll place only one bomb at a time slowly and deliberately, perhaps taking the time to take a cat nap while you wait for them to explode.Yes, as you proceed to new areas the challenge will incrementally increase, but honestly just about any gamer I can imagine would check out before they hit the third level. This feels like a pretty basic coding exercise released as a full game when there’s really nothing noteworthy about it. While I suppose you could argue that at least it doesn’t seem to have any bugs or serious performance issues, that’s much easier to accomplish when the experience demonstrates no notable ambition or meaningful appeal against a sea of better puzzlers.
