While I’ve always tried to introduce each review with a little bit of flavor or general background concerning the genre, the indie scene, or just something random, I’ll admit that for certain types of games it has gotten to be a challenge. Relatively simple budget puzzlers are absolutely one of those categories where there are simply so many options rattling around out there that they qualify as a top-tier contender for the oversaturated crown, without question. 

Now granted, I’m at least very happy that Alien Cat 2 happens to not be a box pusher, and is at least of a more uncommon variety, but for puzzle fans its style will likely be familiar. What’s a little more uncommon though, and at least provides a mild amount of entertainment, is the fact that this is apparently a port of an older retro game, so at least there are some fun interlude animations at times to help give everything a little more old-school personality.

That said, this is absolutely the sort of puzzling that you’ll either dig or get tired of, with it using a mirror mechanic on most stages. This will require some planning, which definitely can continue to get more intricate, as you’ll need to account for both cats making the same moves, which will inevitably put one of them in peril. The trick will be identifying the order that you need to attack things in, whether trying to prioritize disabling some of the traps, or simply putting one cat in an area where you can stop their movement in a given direction, allowing the other to move more freely as needed. If this style of puzzle has some appeal for you this may be older, but its animations and transitions at least make it a bit more fun.
